About this class:
The currents of traditional craft are never from a single source, they are a brood of vipers commingled in a chalice we willingly drink from: some seeking liberation, others seeking power, and still others seeking knowledge. We crawl upon our bellies through the mud of the world, and look to the heavens for portent, for inspiration. In Neo-pagan craft the Sun and the Moon have become primary, and the western inheritance of astrology has let the ecliptic dominate, that path of the Sun through the firmament. But what if the stars are directly engaged with, whenever they cast their light, wherever they gleam between branches and clouds? The witch flies free in this starlit world that always anchors itself in the landscape, creating intimacies with the stars, their light, and where their light shines upon the earth. Here gods, spirits of the dead, and the Others fair and foul in our world dance and shine. They are not only distant, not only immediate, but mediating and pulsing, each shedding the light of before and replacing it with the light of what is. This class is an exploration of this forked tongue of starlight and the serpent-wisdom of the stars that can seduce, beckon, teach and poison, each reminding us “and ye shall be like gods…”

About the presenter:
Jesse Hathaway Diaz is an artist, performer and independent scholar who lives on a farm in the Hudson Valley. With initiations in several forms of witchcraft from Europe and the Americas, he is also a lifelong student of Mexican curanderismo, an initiated priest of Obatalá in the Lucumí Orisha tradition, and a Tatá Quimbanda. He co-hosts an occult themed podcast called ‘Radio Free Golgotha’, and is a long time member of Theatre Group Dzieci, a New York based experimental theatre ensemble.
