The Goal of This Course
Ensouling the Effigy will utilize Matthew's book by the same name as the foundational text for our work here.* Going beyond the text of Ensouling the Effigy, this course will offer more in-depth exploration of the themes and techniques presented in the book as well as additional ritual work, exercises, guided demonstrations, assigned exercises and homework, and a private Discord community for students to connect, share their experiences, and ask questions of course TAs and of Matthew himself. In addition to this, each student will be eligible for a 1 hour one-on-one mentorship session with Matthew in order to ask questions and receive personalized guidance on their work and development. 

The First Part of Ensouling the Effigy is designed to lead the seeker through a diverse array of protocols and techniques for developing and strengthening their abilities in transvection (spirit flight), conjuration, spirit sensing and mediumship, communication and divination, and forming solid pacts and both healthy and effective relationships with spirits as allies and teachers in their craft. 

The Second Part of our course will focus upon the crafting of magical objects. Here we will explore ways of collecting, conjuring and working with magical materia. We will also explore the creative and practical work of crafting effigies, fetiches, and other forms of spirit vessels. This will include "hands on" work and demonstrations of diverse methods for both designing and crafting a variety of spirit vessels. 

The Third Part of the course will bring all of this together and focus upon crafting ritual tools and employing ritual techniques for the birthing of spirits into material forms, as well as the creation of maumet spirits intended to aid the witch in any task they desire.

Lastly, in addition to all of the above, it is the goal of this course that by its end each student will have developed a relationship with a trusted familiar spirit to serve as both ally and teacher and have crafted a spirit vessel to house their familiar. 

Who This Course is Intended For
Ensouling the Effigy will have a limited number of student slots available, is designed to guide students into intermediate to advanced areas of the craft, and is intended for students who:

-Already have a reasonably solid foundation in witchcraft and magic. Students should at least be familiar and comfortable with the basics of magic and foundational ritual protocols. Please note that this course will primarily approach this work from an animist and traditional witchcraft lens. Though it is not a requirement, it is helpful if students have previously taken and completed the homework of our Foundations of Witchcraft course

-Wish to be engaged, show up to classes, and are committed to this work. 
Unlike many of Matthew's previous courses this one will require students to be actively engage, show up to livestreamed classes, do the homework and exercises each month, and share your work and experiences with others in this course via class discussions and Discord chats. This is not a passive course, it is one that requires your participation and commitment. Please take this into consideration before signing up.

That said, we understand that due to some people's schedules they may not be able to make all of the live classes. Though your presence in the livestream is preferred, so long as you are watching the class recordings, keeping up with course assignments/exercises, and participating in the course Discord you will remain in good standing.
