The Triangle of Arte

The Triangle of Arte is a concept found within various systems of grimoire and ceremonial magic and exists primarily as a space for the safe evocation of spirits. Symbolically, the upright equilateral triangle begins at a singular point representative of the one source of all being and ends in a straight-line representing material form.  In employing it for spirit conjuring and communication, censers of incense such as our Evocation Incense, or scrying devices such as crystals and black mirrors may be placed within to this end. In our work of ensouling the effigy, the triangle is viewed similarly when employed in the process of birthing spirits into material forms. It may therefore be worked with when we wish to draw spirits into vessels or call upon their influence or blessings upon whatever magical tool, talismans, and formulas we place within.

The triangle is most often placed upon the floor or the earth, though it may be placed upon an altar or table as is necessary. When in use, a candle is burned at each point. With a white candle placed at the lower right symbolizing generative forces, a black candle at the lower left symbolizing destructive forces, and a red candle placed at the uppermost point symbolizing lifeblood and rebirth. These candles should ideally be dressed with a Spirit Summoning Oil, such as the one available here. In the absence of such an oil, you may offer prayer and conjuration over a portion of olive oil to charge it with drawing the desired spirits nearer. When lit, the candles are meant to activate and empower the triangle and to serve as a beacon that draws and contains the desired spirit to the triangle’s center.
